Wonderful story about a piece of furniture that gets passed down through a family. I loved the multi-racial family and the illustrations. I loved the story idea. However, I think the execution doesn't quite work - the ending especially was awkwardly phrased and seemed forced.

My child especially enjoyed the fantasies the kids had while playing in the chair and we talked what we might imagine in our rocky chairs. But her attention wandered at the ending and she was already rooting in the bag for the next book as I finished reading. ( )

I loved this book. I really like how the author incorporated an introduction to the story explaining why she wrote this book and the meaning behind it. This made it even more special when reading it. I loved how the story made a full circle and included the same tradition. ( )
