This story gives good insight into how the tradition of how the tipi came to be according to legend. Reading this to a classroom and then following the tipi making instructions would be a nice way to segway into how Native Americans lived and some still do. ( ) This book is a strange mix of instructions on how to make a tipi, the story of the storm maker and the reason why tipi's were painted certain ways and arranged certain ways, it also is factual. This book was interesting book to read and would be good for a history lesson and then allowing the children to create their own model tipi. This was a good book, the story was more detailed and bit more involved than some of Goble's books for younger children. There is a section where the main character enters the tipi of the spirit, Storm Maker. This section of the book is presented horizontally instead of vertically, so you have to turn the book sideways to read and view these pages. I believe this signifies it was a spiritual vision. I really liked this bit of playing with readers experience in a way that has meaning. The theme in this book is the reason for tipis being built the way they are and how their decoration has meaning and power. This book could be used in a curriculum dealing with folktales or Native American cultures. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
