Does what it says on the tin

Feeling it was time to brush up on my Russian, I applied for a free copy, was happy to receive it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Short stories with entertaining plots, neither too difficult for casual reading nor too easy for vocabulary-building and a length that I found both manageable and not too exhausting. Specially written for learners of the language, so thankfully free of idiomatic expressions beloved by Russian authors which make the language so colourful and inevitably tend to stump the non-native reader thoroughly. Provides vocabulary at the end of each story, plus a short summary both in Russian and English and comprehension questions with answer keys for self-testing. The authors know what they are about, providing helpful advice how to go about improving your foreign language reading skills that actually worked for me.

I personally would have loved to get some hints regarding the grammatical structures used and, in the vocabulary section, the dictionary forms along with the forms actually used in the story. However, I get that this is not what the authors have set out to provide, so I’m satisfied.

I would recommend this book for students of Russian from B1 level. I’ll definitely be looking out for further textbooks from the authors. ( )
