From bestselling author Sariah Wilson comes a charming romance about living your life one dream at a time. Madison Huntington is determined to live her dreams. That means getting out from under her family's wealth and influence by saying no to the family business, her allowance, and her home. But on a teacher's salary, the real world comes as a rude awakening--especially when she wakes up every morning on a colleague's couch. To get a place of her own (without cockroaches, mold, or crime scene tape), Madison accepts a position as a roommaid. In exchange for free room and board, all she needs to do is keep her busy roommate's penthouse clean and his dog company. So what if she's never washed a dish in her life. She can figure this out, right? Madison is pretty confident she can fake it well enough that Tyler Roth will never know the difference. The finance whiz is rich and privileged and navigates the same social circles as her parents--but to him she's just a teacher in need of an apartment. He's everything Madison has run from, but his kindhearted nature, stomach-fluttering smile, and unexpected insecurities only make her want to get closer. And Tyler is warming to the move. Rewarding job. Perfect guy. Great future. With everything so right, what could go wrong? Madison is about to find out.… (mehr)

The premise of this one was sort of promising - a young teacher who can't afford to live on her own, agrees to be a "roommaid" for a busy financial guy who travels a lot and wants someone on site mostly to take care of his neurotic dog. My two biggest issues with the book were the unbelievable naivete of Madison and the cartoon cut-out evil depiction of the parents. I did like the dog and the best friends, though...

Her parents were just too much. It was cute overall ( )

3.35 This story is pretty silly and definitely predictable, but is still decent, light fare. As a “bonus,” in this review I step onto my soapbox to talk about two genres and their misuse (in my humble opinion). Read my full review here. ( )

Sariah Wilson is one of those authors who I am amazed it took me so long to discover. I love her characters and her stories. For me she is an insta-purchase. I find her writing to be realistic and engaging and her characters to be endearing, frustrating, wonderful, and delightful all at once. I would recommend all of her books. ( )

I believe I saw this on Amazon First Reads--it wasn't my pick for that month, but it apparently intrigued me enough to put it on my "to request from the library list".

It was both predictable and unpredictable. It was both believable and not-believable. There were humorous moments.

What I liked:
*the friendship between Madison, Shay, and Delia.
*Pigeon (the dog)
*The Huntington servants do seem to really like Madison and care about her.
*The humor

What I didn't like:
*Parents/Families (or at least mothers) who manipulate their families and children into doing what she/he/they want and doing things "because they look right" rather than because it's the right thing or what the person wants to do. Disowning your child because she wants to be a teacher? Expecting your son to support your opulent lifestyle and cater to your every whim? Manipulating others behind the scenes?
*We got many instances of Madison's thoughts being about how cute/attractive Tyler is etc.

What I found predictable:
*I knew from the beginning that Madison and Tyler were going to fall in love.

What I thought unpredictable:
*I didn't see the reveal on who Tyler's employer was coming

What was believable:
*two people living in close proximity to each other falling in love.
*The cleaning mistakes Madison made. (I know first hand about the dishwasher, having done it accidentally while distracted and not cleaning the dishwashing liquid out well enough before using the right cleaner and running a load.)

What wasn't believable:
*that a man would want a roommate of the opposite sex for free room and board if she watches his dog and cleans the apartment.
*Tyler seemed just a bit too perfect--especially early on in the book ( )
