This graphic novel moves at a breakneck speed and its an amazing art showcase. Erica Henderson has done an amazing job, especially with color, to really give this graphic novel something to hold on to. And Alex de Campi story, while rather simple, is fun and campy and relevant story. The book blends grindhouse and pulp sensibilities with modern art in a spellbinding tale.

After being trapped inside his coffin in 1889 Vienna, Dracula is transported to sunny Southern California (LA to be exact) nearly a full century later. He's revived by an aging Hollywood starlet obsessed with gaining immortality and maintaining her youth. As the bloodthirsty count launches a new, grisly killing spree throughout the city, crime scene photographer Quincy Harker finds himself drawn deeper and deeper into the lurid murders when Dracula (depicted here as more of a Lovecraftian monster than old white dude from Europe) and his new set of Hollywood brides begin to target him. Are the brides here to help Qunicy or use him as bait?

This was one hallucinatory, pulse ponding graphic novel of California psych-horror. ( )

Dracula, Motherf**ker! is a conflicting read in that it’s an extraordinary visual feast yet it has a story that comes across as ultimately underdeveloped. All things considered I didn’t dislike it, and I'm actively rooting for it to find a better balance between art and storytelling in its next chapter.

You will see reviews calling "Dracula, Motherfucker" a terrible book because the plot is minimal. The plot IS minimal--but it's easy to follow and constructed entirely in service to the top-tier artwork. "Dracula, Motherfucker" borders on being an art book; pay attention to the flow and structure of the pages, the colors and shading, the designs, and the beautifully detailed backgrounds. Approach it as a GRAPHIC novel and you'll find it to be an absolutely stunning piece of work. But, yes, do be prepared for a minimal plot and mostly environmental storytelling. ( )

Like Snakes on a Plane, the work just cannot live up to the title it has stumbled upon.

The author and artist say in the end matter that they are trying to be more free and experimental, but de Campi gives us a nothing vampire story and Henderson hides her pencils under some ugly ass coloring. Disappointing. ( )

The star of the show here is Erica Henderson's vividly coloured and expressionistic art. The cover gives an extremely good idea of what is inside. 1970s Los Angeles is beautifully depicted, the vampires are truly monstrous. I haven't seen her do anything like this before and it's absolutely wonderful work.

Alex de Campi leans on a number of tropes, subverting them and offering different perspectives. Dracula is explicitly depicted as grooming young women. This is not subtle, but the genres it plays off aren't either and it works extremely well.

There are a couple of text pieces by the authors at the back of the book giving background into the process and influences.

My only reservation is that its a slight volume and I would have loved to see more, but it was a blast while it lasted. ( )
