'This exhibition takes the form of an installation consisting of 40 works that fill the entire space of the gallery. It expands previous concepts into three dimensions with the use of oil paintings, watercolors, photographs, shutter paintings, and 'readymade' objects. It is inspired by the city of Mumbai, the city where Dodiya lives and works, a city reeling from the effects of globalization that is changing more rapidly and dramatically than any other city in India.'
(Abstract from foreword)
Autl Dodiya has marked a departure from photorealism and began to explore new art forms such as video-installation and assemblage in the course of the 1990s. The Indian artist also began to construct his work as allegories. His references range from comic strips and religious figures or stories, to movie poster and advertising billboard, and to his favourite paintings from the Indian, European and American traditions.
