Didn't know this was the first of a series, so I was disappointed when things were left hanging. I don't think I'll get the next one. ( ) Actually, "Atlantis" is pretty disappointing for a Bob Mayer (aka G. Donagan/R. Doherty) book. I'd read the entire "Area 51" series and really enjoyed it. As for this series, however, I'll go no further. The action was uneven, the characters underdeveloped, and the plot less than enthralling. It was a struggle to get through and I even found myself skimming just to finish. I won't spend time rehashing the story line, but let me suffice to say that it involves a mysterious otherworldly force that connects the Bermuda Triangle with the Devil's Sea and a Cambodian jungle. At some point, Atlantis must figure into this triumvirate, but that's not apparent in this, the first book, of the series. It contains plenty of references to the military and armaments (as is the custom with most of Mayer's books), so military geeks may find something to like in the series. One of those plane crash books that are so bad you just keep reading it to find out if it gets any worse. And it does. The ancient civilisation of Atlantis was destroyed by some mysterious extra-dimensional powers from the Shadow. They fled to another location in cambodia, and were eradicated there. Now the Shadow is rising again from multiple locations around the world, and only a a hero from the US special forces can save the planet. Big business also gets in on the act so a few token women can stand around and look strong without doing anything. this is almost as annoying as just standing around and screaming at the nasty monsters. But that's OK the hero's friends who didn't di after all are time travelled in by the Shadow's enemies to save the day. I mean I was warned, Atlantis is the title, so it was always going ot be pretty silly. But I didn't think it would be this bad. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

HTML: "What if the Shadow that destroyed Atlantis 10,000 years ago, comes back to threaten our present world? A war beyond time. An enemy beyond space. A thriller beyond your wildest dreams. Three areas on the Earth's surface defy explanation: the Bermuda Triangle, the Devil's Sea of Japan, and a small region of Cambodia. Inside these realms, planes have disappeared, ships have vanished, and, in Cambodia, an entire civilization has been lost leaving behind Angkor Wat. In 1945, Training Flight 19 disappears in the Bermuda Triangle. In 1963, the USS Thresher, a nuclear submarine, is lost under unusual circumstances, part of a secret government investigation into mysterious gates. Near the end of of the Vietnam War, Green Beret Eric Dane led a team of operatives deep into Cambodia and encountered a strange fog near the legendary city of Angkor Kol Ker. His entire team disappears, attacked by strange creatures out of the fog. Only Dane survives to return. Now a plane goes down. In the same area Dane lost his team. He's called back. To find out who is the darkness behind these gates to our planet. What does this Shadow force want? It is a threat that will take on the world's greatest military forces and defeat them. A power that will overwhelm our science and technology. A merciless enemy that will lead Dane—and the whole planet—into the final desperate battle for survival. "Spell-binding! Will keep you on the edge of your seat. Call it techno-thriller, call it science fiction, call it just terrific story-telling." Terry Brooks, #1 NY Times Bestselling author of the Shannara series and Star Wars Phantom Menace If you enjoyed LOST, you'll love this book and be amazed at the similarities in concept (although this book was published before Lost)." .Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
