Two people who come from two opposites sides of town find each other and make a connection that leads them to helping each other discover who they are deep down. Adelaide comes from a very well-known family, she always does what is expected of her, and never fights against what she is told to do until things come to light that have her questioning everything. Jett comes from the bad side of town, from a single mother who has worked hard all her life to support him and is always looked down on. Jett has spent his whole life ignoring comments about how poor he is, how others perceive his other, and wading through fake people so he is beyond ready to get out of Willow Springs. Adelaide is tired of having her whole life ran for her, so she is determined to set out and create her own path. When these two forms an old friendship again they help each other see that while they are trying to figure life out, they don’t really have to have everything planned just yet. Jett was amazing, honest, and down to earth. All he wanted was to better his life and help his mother and grandmother. Adelaide at first was irritating because she let so many people run her life, but when she finds what she wants she fights hard for it and finally stands up for herself. I really despised her mother because the way she behaved and even though she may come around eventually I felt that she went way too far for her to be forgiven as much as she was. Then Adelaide with her loyalty was admirable it still angered me that she still was loyal to those who did her wrong and she let them off way too easy as well. These two together are combustible and the way they help/rely on each other is so beautiful. This book was such a wonderful read for me, and I loved these characters, this town, and their friendships. Overall a fantastic read with angst, drama, and self-discovery. “You’re just fraying a little later than the rest of us. But it means you’re living.” ( )
