"Lindsey Waters never wanted to return to the seaside inn where she grew up. Too many traumatic memories haunt the place, both from her childhood and from days gone by. But with guilt relentlessly chasing her after a tragic choice, she's desperate for a fresh start. Mysterious incidents begin plaguing the inn--dangerous incidents--that make it clear someone wants to scare Lindsey away. But why? Does it have anything to do with the two weeks missing from her memory when she was abducted at age twelve? Childhood friend Benjamin Newsom seems like an answer to prayer when he shows up to work as a handyman. But something is different about him, something Lindsey can't put her finger on. She's certain Benjamin harbors secrets. As peril continues to close in, Lindsey must decide if she wants to face her past or run. She doesn't know whom she can trust, and whatever choices she makes will determine if she lives or if she becomes part of the inn's tragic legacy"--… (mehr)

Lindsey Waters returns to the seaside town where she grew up, but dangerous events plague her. Her childhood friend, Benjamin Newsom appears on the scene and offers to be her handyman. Secrets plague her past as well as those around her.

This book includes mystery, danger, secrets, intrigue, and more. I appreciated the plot development as well as the character development. Sometimes it takes courage and faith to overcome the past, and such is the case for Lindsey.

Benjamin also has secrets. But when those secrets come to light things make sense to Lindsey. Truly this book is one worth reading. So check it out for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. ( )

What I think you should know:
The Inn on Hanging Hill, a Romantic Suspense by Christy Barritt is the second book in the Beach House Mystery Series. It is a standalone contemporary novel.

What you might need to know:
Lindsey was kidnapped when she was 12 years old and has no memory of the time that she was missing.

What I think about this book:
This is such a fast paced, heart stopping book. Barritt sweeps you into the story from the first page. When Lindsey returns to her childhood home she once again realizes that everything is not as it seems. Lindsey was such an interesting character, she has secrets in her past, some that she can’t even remember. Benjamin’s character kept me guessing for a long time. I enjoyed watching Benjamin and Lindsey’s friendship evolve into more. I appreciated how the story unfolded and was really intrigued trying to figure out all of the secrets before the author revealed them to us.

For those who are fans of mystery and intrigue I encourage you to grab a copy of this book. I love that it is filled with just enough suspense to keep readers guessing. I certainly didn’t figure out who was behind everything. In fact I was shocked at the ending. The author has cleverly written a story that spans over fifteen years where secrets, revenge and power can be deadly.

Lindsey coming back to the inn was suppose to be a time of healing and restoration. Instead it turns into a nightmare as accidents happen around her, and strange notes appear out of nowhere. If you have experienced a traumatic event you can understand what Lindsey is going through. Her abduction has never been solved and she has just little flashbacks at times of those two weeks she was held captive. Will she ever get the answers she is seeking to overcome her past?

I did figure out the secret Benjamin was keeping with subtle hints from the author. It didn’t take anything away from the story for me at all. I kept wondering how long he could continue to deceive Lindsey and knew when she found out her trust would be gone. There is a definite theme of a small town filled with secrets and people who are manipulated by an evil person. The author delivers an intense look at the cost of hiding the truth and the price of keeping secrets.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion. ( )

Christy Barritt always delivers fast-paced romantic suspense reads, and The Inn on Hanging Hill adds an element of eerie.

From the prologue—which takes place fifteen years prior to the rest of the book—to the last page, readers will be wondering what in the world is happening in this old inn. Lindsey is a character you just know wants to do good but somehow, she has been surrounded by people who want the opposite. And therefore, I wanted here to find her footing and a fresh start.

Benjamin seems like a good guy, but you just know there’s something off about him. I kept wavering on what that was right up until the truth is revealed.

With an inn as full of secrets as the townspeople, this book kept me guessing as to who was behind the happenings. This is a quick read just because you won’t want to put it down.

Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own. ( )

When I need a mystery fix, I know I can rely on Christy Barritt to deliver. Her books can be funny or deadly serious, but are always page turners. Her latest in the Beach House Mystery series is definitely one I would recommend. She has the creepy house vibe down with The Inn on Hanging Hill. (Even the title promises a shivery reading experience.) The story takes place on the Eastern Shore of Virginia at a long neglected inn with history. It’s been 15 years since Lindsey has been there — after her abduction and mysterious return, her parents and she left, never to return. Now Lindsey has taken on the task of rehabbing the building and finding answers to just who was responsible for her kidnapping. Joining her is her long lost friend from those years at the inn, Benjamin. But as threats surface, things are not what they seem. I loved the two main characters. Each were very likable. They faced each danger with determination to get to the bottom of all that was happening. There is no shortage of suspects, but Barritt surprised me. Everyone, it seems, has a motive for the unsolved abduction and the present-day threats. The creepy/beach-y setting was fun and the romance between Lindsey and Benjamin was sweet, but it was the puzzle that kept me engaged. I did not see the ending coming!

I gather from the description of book one in the series, The Cottage on Ghost Lane, that The Inn on Hanging Hill is a standalone novel. But I had so much fun reading it, that the previous book is now on my TBR list. 🙂

Recommended.

Audience: Adults.
