The time travel love triangle/square is inventive and emotional, and the Nico/Karolina stuff is pretty decent, but as a whole, the volume was a bit on the forgettable side, unfortunately, something that has plagued multiple of Rowell's entries in the series. That said, it's nice seeing the core premise of the Runaways continuing: The children being torn between their loyalty to each other and their own hopes and desires and needs. And a lot of the dialogue is charming. ( )

After the events of Canon Fodder, Gert decides she needs more career options and re-enrolls in high school.

What I enjoyed most were the found-family domestics -- and how that contrasted to all the sci-fi superheroes stuff. I was disappointed to discover that the series has been cancelled so there’s no volume 7, but I guess it’s not a terrible time to say goodbye. There are still unresolved plot threads and it’s obvious that there are more problems and adventures ahead, but I was always more interested in their relationships and emotional wellbeing. And on those fronts, there’s been progress and some resolution -- they’re all in an okay place.

Nico: “Chase does drop-off. I do pick-up. That’s the deal! I have to be at work!”
Victor: “We could just take the bus. We could even walk.”
Nico: “You’re not taking the bus. I don’t want people to think nobody loves you.” ( )

While this is just as good as the volumes that precede it, due to an abrupt cancellation of the series it has to serve as a finale, and it is lousy at that. Created with the intention of having a next volume, there are nothing but cliffhangers and unresolved storylines by the last page. I have nothing but love for the creative team, but here's a big BOOOOOOO for Marvel. ( )
