I am not sure there are many authors out there that could do what this author just did in this book. It is one thing to turn one villain into a hero/anti-hero. But turning three at the same time? This shouldn't even be possible. Yet, after reading this book, she 100% did.
I am not going to lie, I hated the Terror Triplets in Ash's books. HATED them. I saw zero redeemable qualities. Even at the start of this book, I didn't see anything overtly positive. Yet, the keyword there is overt because as the story unfolded, I started to see a different side to each one of these characters. Even as much as I hated the characters, I cannot say that they didn't live rent-free in my mind. I mean how could they not? They were ruthless bullies and there were THREE of them as if only one wasn't enough. I liked watching these brothers each take a different approach to the task that they have been assigned in regards to Landry Croft. I started to see something gleaming a human I could be somewhat hopeful would become redeemable in Sparrow and Sully. Scout? Yeah, I am not going to hold my breath. Although, this author has done crazier things which is good because, for some unknown reason, he is the one that I want to see happy the most. It is the craziest thing.
I felt for Landry in this case. She had her hands full, even if unbeknownst to her that she was dealing with three men, in addition, to her father and trying to shield her sister. There are hints as to the past that she has endured but nothing outright. I think that will come out as the story unfolds. I think she is going to be at an advantage, in the long run, because she has had years to learn to adapt to the crazy that is her father. I think it will benefit her when it comes to dealing with the triplets. I look forward to watching that.
I am, still, a little bit confused as to what role Ty Constantine is going to be playing in this series. This book ended at a pivotal moment, however, I was expecting that because I didn't see how this could be finished in one book with this many characters without feeling rushed. It was good being back in this Midnight Dynasty world. A world, in which my hatred of Caroline Constatine and Bryant Morelli still runs deep. However, as deep as my hatred is for both the Matriarch and Patriarch are of their respective family, I love the chaos that they create with those around them.
I am looking forward to the next book. The author has done her job at keeping up the crazy personalities of these men and giving voice to a woman that definitely needs it. I just hope that I am right and that Landry can bring them to their knees and not the other way around.
