Lizzy is on her way to making partner at her LA firm until a panic attack during an opening statement makes her take a real, off-work vacation. She decides to take three weeks and venture to where her best friend, Jack, lives and works for his family brewery. Jack has had a crush on Lizzy for years, but never will act on it since she is his best friend. Now that Lizzy is in town and she's no longer hours away what will that mean? Lizzy's escape from her high pressure job is escaping to bookstores to read her favorite book and not being the lawyer her mother has always pushed her to be. This isa story of Lizzy realizing what she really wants in her life for her career and in love, while also learning to stand up for herself. I enjoyed this book and it is not the typical romance book I expected halfway through. I applaud the author for not sugarcoating issues like dealing with paternal pressure and overcoming anxiety. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced reader copy. ( )

Okay. We started out like a Hallmark movie

Overworked woman lawyer
Best friend who is hopelessly in love with said lawyer
Goes to small town and pours herself into rejuvenating a local bookstore
Both Guy and Girl realize that their feelings and mutual.....

But then we go into 'Friends With Benefits" (you know the movie with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman) territory REAL quick. Because sure, adding sex into your relationship isn't going to change anything! Sure you can act like horny teenagers and then go back to the way things were three weeks later!

Yeah. Right.

This book lacked background. I wanted to know why Lizzy and Jack were friends. What was their history? Obviously Lizzy had been into Jack just as much or else the woodworker/handyman fantasies wouldn't have done a number on her. Once sex happened in their relationship, it literally felt like they truly did become teenagers. Misunderstandings. Angst. More horniness. Breaking up. "Finding themselves."

I rolled my eyes a lot. I cringed a lot (was not feeling the 0 to 60 velocity of their relationship and so the constant sex was like "I get it!"). I thought the writing poor. And it sucks because I had been hopeful for this one. It's a bookstore in a small town for goodness sake! But yeah nope ( )

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC for an honest review.
Some of the steamiest non-sex scenes I've ever read! I love that this book can be this sexy without being overly graphic. This couple's awkwardness is so cute.
The plot was a bit on the light side which made it drag a bit in the little. Also has the miscommunication trope which personally isn't my favorite. ( )

Cute romance about a overachiever, Lizzy Chung, who is following her mother's dream of being a high-powered attorney. Lizzy is unhappy and having panic attacks. She spends time in her favorite bookstore to escape the pressure of billable hours. After a big case, and a panic attack, she decides to take a vacation and head to Weldon where her best friend, Jack Park lives. Jack has been in love with Lizzy since they were 10, but doesn't want to ruin their friendship. When things begin to heat up between them, Jack makes plans to move to LA and leave the family business to break out on his own, hoping to overcome feelings of inadequacy.
A cute friends-to-lovers romance, while also exploring the anxiety you can get when trying to live up to someone else's expectations, vs. living your own life and dream. Some steamy scenes! Enjoyable book. ( )

Lizzy is an attorney. She just won her first case. But, she is not enjoying her work at all. She decides to take a much needed vacation and she runs to her childhood best friend, Jack. Jack has plans of his own though. He has a secret. He is applying for a job close to where Lizzy lives. Hopefully if he succeeds, he and Lizzie will finally become more than friends

I have always had a problem with this author’s characters. She creates these smart individuals but then they are so stupid in their decision making. I really wanted to snap Jack bald headed during parts of this book. He has carried his torch for Lizzie for over 10 years…10 YEARS! And this went on for several chapters and I was like…YOU ARE A GROWN MAN…STEP UP! This is just one example of my frustration with this book.

Now, if I had physically read this book, it would have been a DNF. But I have more patience with audiobooks. So, I did finish it. Basically because of Lizzie’s love of books and the narrator, Cindy Kay.

Need a romance with a bookstore and a sweet setting…this is it! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review. ( )
