From actor-author-broadcaster-comedian-filmmaker Richard Ayoade comes a book narrated by . . . a book. Quirky, smart, and genre-busting, this is the saga of a book that nobody wants to readâ??until the day it meets YOU.
/> The life of a book isn't easy, especially when people judge you by your cover (not every book can be adorned with sparkly unicorns!). And this narrator should knowâ??it's the book itself, and it has a lot of opinions. It gets irritated when readers bend its pages back, and it finds authors quite annoying. But it does have a story to tell. Through witty direct address and charming illustrations, readers meet a book that has never been read, with a cover the boring color of a school lunch table and pages so dry they give bookworms indigestion. But what happens when this book meets you, a curious reader? Multitalented author Richard Ayoade and award-winning illustrator Tor Freeman bring to life a hilariously subversive take on the nature of books and reading, with a heartening theme of finding the courage to tell our own stories. Readers of all ages will be delighted by the myriad bookish references and laughs on every page… (mehr)

I'm never not going to love anything Richard Ayoade does. This book is exactly his wit, charm, and style. It's funny, heart-warming, and thought provoking. But mostly funny. No, mostly heart-warming. No, funny. I don't know, it's just a fun read. Better than this review. So yeah, you're clearly better off reading "The Book That No One Wanted to Read." ( )

Humorous and unique. However, I expected more of the story to be about the book's experience (that is, The Book That No One Wanted to Read, which this book is titled after). Otherwise, it was an enjoyable 45 minutes of reading. ( )

There is only a very slight story and mostly a whole lot of digressions in this, but the digressions are amusing and it all goes by quickly enough. The illustrations are kind of like New Yorker cartoons for children. It's not terribly deep, just funny (sometimes absurd). Readers might learn a thing or two about books along the way. ( )

I want to live in Richard Ayoade’s mind for a day and just enjoy all the wacky, intellectual things he comes with. This shouldn’t work, and yet, it does! Books about books should only be written by books from now on. ( )

I couldn’t help hearing Ayoade’s voice in my head while reading this cute, humorous children’s book. Full of meta elements (it’s a book written by a book) and clever illustrations, I feel like I would have loved this book as a child. As an adult, I enjoyed its sly tone and sense of humor. ( )
