As a healer, he knows her body. But it's her heart he wants. For a thousand years, Gideon has healed his people. And as the oldest surviving male of his race, his wisdom has always been respected without question. But Gideon knows that even he is vulnerable to the powerful, primitive desires that befall his kind during Hallowed moons--and nine years ago that truth was hammered home when he found himself claiming Magdalena, the Demon King's sister, in a wild embrace. Horrified by his lack of control, he left her wanting and furious--and then exiled himself for the better part of a decade. Now, with necromancers threatening his people--and Magdalena nearly their victim--Gideon must face another truth. He and the beautiful, stubborn Magdalena are destined to be together, to share a love as deep and old as time itself. But first he needs to regain her trust. Then he'll have to save her life.… (mehr)

So this author is really good at setting up the next book in the series. These books are starting to feel like crack, and I don't really like books set in contemporary dialogue because the slang in dialogue tends to become obnoxious, which was more a problem in the first book because there was a human character than there was in this book. There are some weird creative decisions that make me pause because of the implications of said creative decisions like: If demons can get drunk off of animal milk, where are they getting their supply of giraffe milk, and what does Isabella think of this ( I was hoping for a reaction to it in this book, but it never happened)? or Why use the word Lycanthrope, which refers specifically to werewolves if they are just shapeshifters? or If Lycanthropes' hair is like an appendage, when it becomes fur do they become more vulnerable? or Does the author know that a mountain lion screaming just sounds like a woman screaming? There is also the problem of there not being an HEA for the characters in the first book because of that prophecy about their children, and that the pregnancy is apparently going to last for several books because the gestation period for a demon is... different. It leaves their story open-ended, which is part of the reason I am still reading these books because I crave narrative fulfillment. I thought that this relationship would be more interesting, and I found my attention wavering because there is so much setup for other things, and I think the angst for this particular relationship could have been drawn out more. Like imagine if Legna actively avoided Gideon because of their past or if Noah actually had a problem with their age difference (there must be norms about this considering that Gideon is literally a thousand years old). Also, Corinne really gets the short stick in these books where she isn't really a character so much as she is a plot device. ( )

I picked this book up in a thrift store for .99. I figured if it's awful, no harm no foul. I was pleasantly surprised.

Billed as a paranormal romance, this book could have been more erotica than paranormal romance. It is not. Yes, as is common with the romance genre there are sex scenes, but it's not every two pages at the sacrifice of having a fully developed story.

Also, having read a ton of the genre, there is always the concern of "it's already been told." This series is unique. I will continue through it. ( )

This was a good book, and nice series to fill the time between my favorite author's book releases. ( )

Gideon is an ancient Body Demon and Magdelegna is a relatively young Mind Demon. He spurned her once and she's reluctant to trust him again, but they are Imprinted Mates.

Sucks when you write a really long review, and then your laptop dies...So lets try this again!

I really liked this book, the series is progressing very nicely. It's no longer just a story of good vs. bad. There is now betrayal thrown into the mix as well. It continues were the first left off, with the demons worried over the growing number of the Necromancer's. They learn that the necromancer's are working with the Hunters, the group who hunt vamps and lycanthrope's. This is very unnerving news, because it shows a new organization in their ranks. Noah, the demon king, didn't know if the betrayal was because of the vampires, the lycanthropes, or someone in the demon race. The Necromancers terrify the demons, because if summoned by evil humans, the demon will lose all of their humanity.

This story is about the HEA of Legna and Gideon though. Legna was summoned in the first book by the necromancer's and the only reason she was saved was because of Bella's nullifying power. But nine years before this book takes place, Legna and Gideon, were caught in the "heat of the moon" during one of their festive moons, and almost had a fling. Gideon thought he was going mad because of the moon (since that's what it was doing to ppl) and left Legna. He hurt her feelings by basically calling her a baby. Since she in under 300 years old, and him being an Ancient and over 700, he thoughts that he was going mad by being seduced by Legna. Really though, he stopped because of his respect for her. Legna ends up being pissed off, and disliking Gideon for that.

What the two didn't know is that during that close call they began to Imprint onto one another as mates. The reason it took so long to realize this is because of the fact that two demons imprinting is very rare. They solidify their imprint in an electrified moment in Legna's bedroom. They basically put both of their powers into each other and practically made a circuit with their connection. His power as a body demon, in her body, and hers in his mind, as a mind demon.

Gideon has a lot of guilt over their races history, because he played a role in it and he is the only person to have done that and still be alive. Because of the amount of guilt and other emotions, Gideon had locked away his emotions centuries ago. Using his body demon powers to control his bodies response to emotions, and therefore making them not existent. When Legna and Gideon are working on their bond, Legna forces Gideon to trust her and makes him open the floodgate to his emotions. At first I didn't like Gideon's response to their bond. He just acted like it was something of interest, or something to amuse him. But once he begins to feel his feelings, he goes through a huge emotional change that really makes their connection, and Gideon himself, one to empathize with.

This story also has other characters, such as Bella and Jacob. Bella is attacked in this book. Attacked so that she will suffer before she dies, but since Legna is her best friend and was stopping by to visit, she survived.

There is a massive battlefield scene, that is pretty awesome in my opinion. Yet AGAIN, Jacob is knocked unconscious during the battle. That's making me laugh, since he's suppose to be a great fighter and powerful demon, yet he keeps getting his ass kicked. Only one fight that I can think of he stayed away for the entire time. LOL.

There's a new alliance being worked, involving the Lycanthrope Queen, Siena, and possibly the Vamps.

There is a kidnapping, and a semi-stealthy rescue. Women only. :P

I really enjoyed this book, it had depth, a real story, and a playfulness. Along with Gideon re-learning his emotions, this book was an excellent ride.

If I forgot anything, that would make me mad since this isn't even as good as my first review that I lost with my laptop battery dying earlier. ( )
