Oh, that Hannah Troyer! She appears strong, determined, and a tad prideful but is this a cover? Is she really uncertain and afraid? Can she keep her family's farm and orchard flourishing after her father's death, or will they lose everything that he worked so hard for?

Cicada Season is a story of loss, struggles, and acceptance, but it's also an inspiring look at hope, faith, and love. It's the third book of the Miller's Creek series and another chance for the Amish matchmakers to work their magic. Hannah and her family need help and there are 5 Milford brothers to choose from. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing, unless you're Hannah Troyer and Leon Milford---oil mixing with water!

Author Mindy Steele grabbed my attention from the very start! I laughed, I sighed, and I kept wondering if Leon would ever soften Hannah's heart. If you enjoy fun, romance, and endearing Amish fiction, grab a copy of Cicada Season. Better yet, treat yourself to the entire Miller's Creek series!

I received a digital copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review. ( )

This is the third book in the Miller Creek series and I suggest reading the previous books to fill in the details of the story although it isn’t necessary. It is nice to visit previous characters and see how people are coping after the accident that claimed many lives two years ago. Hannah is overwhelmed with trying to care for her family and all the chores even though she puts on a brave face. She carries a chip on her shoulder for Leon and of all things he is working to help her with the farm and orchard. This combination is like watching fireworks on the 4th of July as each encounter is a surprise development. I love the families and how they love and support each other. I especially enjoy the matchmakers and their antics to get people together. I was engrossed in watching the characters grow and develop as they face their own flaws. Sit back and watch God work on hearts, share a chuckle, and enjoy the ride. You will feel like you can see and smell those apple trees when you are done.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required. ( )

Cicada Season by Mindy Steeles is a delightful Amish novel. It is the third book in the Miller’s Creek series, but it can easily be read as a standalone (you will be missing out on two good stories). I like Mindy Steele’ writing style. It allowed me to become engaged in the story. We return to Miller’s Creek, Kentucky where Hannah Troyer has been working her family’s apple orchard on her own since her father’s passing. Her two sisters and her mother do their part, but they are unable to perform the harder tasks. Hannah misses her father, and she is going to continue his legacy even if it runs her into the ground. Leon Milford does not like to become bored. He has been unable to find a job that keeps his interest. His father tells Leon that he is the new hand for the Troyer family. Leon dreads the task. He has avoided Hannah ever since she bloodied his nose three times during youth volleyball games. A part of Leon, though, looks forward to seeing Hannah. No other maedel has captured his interest. Little does Leon know that the two Amish matchmakers at the bakery are behind his latest predicament. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor scattered throughout the story. It kept things lively. The matchmakers are fun. They do have a good track record. It appears one of them might find themselves matched up. The matchmakers may get some extra help for this particularly difficult match. Cicadas are a theme in the story. It was interesting to learn why they make such a racket. Hannah is a strong willed woman who does not suffer fools. It will take patience, love, and prayer to make Hannah see what a special man Leon truly is. I laughed often while reading Cicada Season. It livened up a gloomy rainy afternoon. Cicada Season has realistic characters and situations. I felt for the women who had lost their loved ones (thirty-five men died in a building accident). This story has love, friendship, family, laughter, tears, tasty food, a bad casserole, and loud cicadas. Faith was beautifully incorporated into the story. There are some good life lessons. I enjoyed my time in Miller’s Creek and I hope to return soon. Cicada Season is an inspiring tale with a crummy chicken casserole, a determined maedel, scheming matchmakers, chirping cicadas, a wayward brother, an abundance of apples, and a stressful drawing of the lot. This is the third book in this series, but the author does a great job of bringing you up to date, and this can be read alone.
This is Hannah Troyer's story, a woman, or girl, that on the death of her father, took over the farm, and apple grove, she is struggling, but providing for her mother and sisters. Her mother, and others, manage to hire Leon Milford, a young Amish man that she managed to beat up.
Can these two stop beating heads for the betterment of all? It sure doesn't seem so, although Leon is working beyond expectations, Hannah doesn't want him on her land!
These are people who live their faith, they give in time of need, and even with the disaster that struck Milford, life goes on.
Come and journey with us for healing, and the acceptance of wayward members, and the rebirth of this town with new life, and healing.
I received this book through Net Galley and Vinspire Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )
