On the whole, I think this remix works really well, and I love the inclusion of the Metis characters, the setting, and the lesbian romance. It's a little confusing because Mary reads like a very young 15 -- makes sense, given how sheltered and isolated she is growing up, but she still comes across as younger, and the romance as more of a girl crush than something more serious. I also felt like the ending was very abrupt -- things were at crisis and then suddenly, bam! happily ever after. I mean, yay for happily ever after, but that's a whole lot of "I didn't know what was going on" to swallow, and a very quick turnaround to a more idyllic state. The book was a compulsively enjoyable read, however, and moved quickly along.
