A fiercely funny and heartfelt Brooklyn-set rom-com featuring two talented romantic misfits whose first date ends with a psychic's prophecy that is equal parts great fortune and certain doom-and sends them on a search for answers to some of life's big questions, including whether they'll throw caution-and fate-to the wind, trust their instincts and write their own futures? From co-authors and real-life partners Kate and Danny Tamberelli. Brooklyn-based aspiring writer Lucy Minninger has no trouble putting the comedy in her rom-coms. It's the romance part of the equation that's the problem. But even as the rejection slips pile up, and her second dates dwindle, Lucy refuses to give up hope-or her HeartThrobs? dating profile . . . Former child star Rudy Riziero made his mark on some of the most popular kids shows of the ?90s. But that early success has pigeonholed him into a stand-up routine riffing on his past work, while the slick single life he envisioned was clearly a fantasy. He's actually ready for a relationship, if he could just find someone uninterested in who he used to be . . . When Lucy and Rudy match online, they're eager to meet. But after their first date ends in a psychic's prophecy that is equal parts great fortune and certain doom, their flirty quips end and their search for answers to some of life's big questions begins: Is there really one person for everyone? Do destinies really intertwine? Where can you find the best tacos in Brooklyn? And when it matters most, will they throw caution-and fate-to the wind, trust their instincts-and write their own futures? "Romance, comedy, tacos, psychics, life, death, and love-The First Date Prophecy has it all.A beautiful, fun, and complex love story told by a beautiful, fun, and complex couple." -Screenwriters Emily V. The First Date Prophecy by Kate and Danny Tamberelli
Contemporary romance, romantic comedy. 2015 New York. Alternating POV.
Lucy Minninger is weary of first date disasters but they do make good fodder for stories for her friends. She pays her rent and bills, barely, by Craigslist jobs and as part-time author’s assistant. Lucy spots former child star Rudy Riziero on a dating app and decides to swipe right and take a chance. Rudy sends a hypothetical question and the two chat and eventually decide to try a date in person. Their first date includes a psychic that declares them “destined” but dies in the middle of the reading. Talk about first date stories!

Based loosely on the true lives of the authors and their dating meet cute in New York. They tell stories of memorable first dates in New York that can be smiled at, or commiserated over, as their romance grows. It’s sweet and hopeful with a dash of splashed water in the face.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. ( )

As an aspiring author, the heroine can write about happy endings for her characters but hasn't found her own. Undeterred, the heroine still hopes to meet her significant other in the world, especially by using online dating. The former child star hero is ready for a relationship after being done with the single life. The heroine and the hero are matched online, and their first date ends up
with a psychic's prophecy that makes them question fate and destiny.

This is a contemporary romance that is written by the married couple of Danny and Kate Tamberelli. The married authors enriched the book with situations that are based on their own real-life experiences. This book brings some quirkiness and '90s nostalgia that makes it entertaining. I liked the progression of the couple's relationship, though there were certain actions taken that I didn't like even if they were necessary in the story. Overall, an enjoyably nostalgic romance book.

Based on the real-life romance of the authors, this is a rom-com about 2 adults in NYC who meet through a dating app. Lucy is an aspiring writer and Rudy is a former child star who is carrying a chip on his shoulder about his older brother's continued stardom, as well as for stealing his former girlfriend. When they go on their first date, they have a fortune teller reading. Sadly, at the reading, the fortune teller dies. So, Rudy and Lucy decide they need to fulfill the prophecy given to them by this fortune teller.
As they pursue this, they become close friends, then roommates. They plan a comedy show, but Rudy throws a wrench into the plan, which causes a rift between the pair.
A cute rom-com, but I thought it went on a bit too long. ( )
