Lauren has a childhood sweetheart, whose family has helped her through the traumatic times in her childhood, took her in until Lauren and Josh purchased a house and moved out. Things seemed to go on fine until, Lauren started going back to the hospital with injuries. How was she getting those injuries? Things become clear later in the book.
While recovering from one of her injuries, her doctor Dr.Menon, becomes a friend that she can confide in. She had been in a jet ski accident and almost drowned, come to find out, the engine on the jet ski had been tampered with and Josh has disappeared.
Prior to the accident, Lauren had asked Josh to move out, she had had enough of his abuse. No one believes that her 'injuries' came from Josh, except Dr.Abilash Menon.
They become close and fall in love, but it can't work out because Dr.Menon is from India and intends to move back and will be in an arranged marriage.
Josh comes back into the picture and things go sideways, Dr.Menon's roommate Nick is concerned for Lauren's welfare and a fight ensues.
The story is told in two timelines, Then and Now, in the Then the reader learns more about Lauren's mother and the relationship with Josh. The Now tells the story of Lauren's relationship with Dr.Menon. A kind of twisty story, I had it all figured out, or I thought I did. Come to find out I was way off base on who did what. I love a good psychological and love when the story gets all twisty like this one did.
I did enjoy this story, I think I want to read more by Alex Stone!
I give it 4 stars!
