This is the second in a series of Dare Crossovers - standalone books featuring minor characters from Carly Phillips’ Dare family. You don’t need to have read any other book to read and enjoy this one despite some characters from other books popping up - this is all about Georgia and Drew.
I love Carly Phillips but when she teams up with Erika Wilde, it gives me all the Mills & Boon / Harlequin Blaze feels and it makes me giddy! Blaze was all about sizzling stories with strong heroines and irresistible heroes playing the game of modern love and lust - and this is exactly what we get with this story.
Drew and Georgia have an instant connection at a prestigious event but after one delicious dance, Drew leaves Georgia high and dry. Despite that, the connection between our couple is instant and I loved their banter, their conversation and how sweet they were as a couple. And when it gets to it, the sex is wonderfully hot - it’s divine. As their relationship progresses, I also loved how our pair just couldn’t stay away from each other. It was sweet and cemented their friendship as well as their love.
Georgia is from a high society background but she’s a very normal, down-to-earth sort of girl and I was happy to root for her. She is always the good girl so it was definitely fun to watch her come out of her shell with Drew and show her more naughty side. He brought out the best in her without changing her - but by the end of the book you’ll definitely be cheering her on as she stands up for herself and goes after what she wants.
Equally, Drew is the perfect kind of hero. He’s sexy, good-looking, sweet and driven. He knows what he wants and goes out and gets it. He’s an honest guy and it was nice that he was trying desperately not to lead Georgia on - but when he gets told some home truths, it was equally refreshing for him to realise that yes - he was totally wrong!
Nobody in this book changed to get their happily ever after. Nobody compromised on their dreams or goals (not that I’m saying compromise is wrong, of course!) to get the girl / guy. It was lovely to see two people obviously perfect for each other - and with chemistry up the wazoo - to make it work together. And the little epilogue was the cherry on the top - it was so cute!
This was a quick read - both because it’s only 184 pages and because I just stormed through it. It’s sweet, sexy, satisfying and brings out the best of both our authors. I loved it. 5 stars. But I admit I’m still not sure what the ‘secret’ actually was… ( )
