Good, but I'm too old to even enjoy this anymore. The little characters just annoy. ( )

This book follows the two characters Kriss and Kross as they work their way through different "math games." The parts of this book are called: "Magic Liquid," "Exploring Triangles," "Mazes," and "Left and Right." The first part, "Magic Liquid," is all about shape transformations; one magic liquid stretches or shrinks things from top to bottom, while the other liquid stretches or shrinks things from side to side. Different images placed on grids are then transformed with different mixtures of the liquids, and the reader is asked to figure out how much of the liquids were put in each mixture by looking at the pictures. Then the magic liquid is put on a rubber circle with a line through it, and the reader is shown how you can stretch the circle to look like different objects. The reader is then tasked with figuring out what shapes were transformed into certain objects. In "Exploring Triangles," triangles are the main focus. The reader is shown different types of triangles and then the triangles are used to form different shapes. Origami using triangle shaped paper (that the reader is shown how to cut) is taught. The next section, "Mazes," is all about mazes. The reader must figure out which mazes are made of one continuous line and which ones are made out of two separate lines. The reader is also shown how to make a cat's cradle, and other "string puzzles" are given as well. In "Left and Right," the reader is taught the difference between left and right. Wheel puzzles are used in this section, as well as puzzles that deal with using directions on a map. This book was a fun read, and I think that children would learn some valuable math skills from it. Math concepts like shapes, transformations, reflections, odd and even numbers, and many geometric concepts. A few puzzles really stumped me, which made me think that some children would have trouble with this book. But after each puzzle, the concept explored is explained in further detail in an easily understandable way, and usually there are easier examples that can help lead up to the harder games. ( )

The book "Anno's Math Games" was very thought provoking. It teaches readers a variety of math. The book creates various games for readers to follow along while forcing readers to think critically. Some of the problems in the book were a bit complex because it was more logic than numbers. The illustrations were very descriptive and was a useful guide to understanding the word problems ( )

This is a book full of different fun math games for children. A lot of the math games are mazes, logical riddles, geometry puzzles and matching games. The only reason I kind of like this book is because of the cute vintage look. Other than that I would not incorporate this book into my classroom. While it is fun and I would recommend this book for outside of the classroom, it would not work for my math class. None of these books incorporate actual numbers and math problems. They are all logical thinking games. If this book would have more math problems games to workout I believe I would have liked this book a little more. ( )
