Adults will tell you that few things you can acquire in school are as important as the ability to speak and write effectively. Success comes to the person who has at his command the words he needs and the necessary knowledge of his language to help him use these words as he wishes. A person's ideas, no matter how good, are of little practical importance unless he can express them clearly. Incorrect and awkward English is a social and business handicap and a frequent cause of failure in shcool. For these reasons English is a required subject.
