2320 The Best Years 1945-1950, by Joseph C. Goulden (read 29 Aug 1990) The years covered by this book were fabulous years for me, my senior year in high school and my college years, when I was at the height of my consciousness re public affairs. Yet much of the book was a sheer joy to read--I reveled in reading about those familiar things, seen from a 25-year perspective. Some of the accounts--for instance, on the Amerasia affair, I really didn't have a handle on. Maybe because, though I heard so much about it, I was determinedly 'liberal' on it. The chapter on the Hiss case is well-done. And of course the chapters on the 1948 election made me almost cry with joy. They were astounding years and it was so so enjoyable to read this not badly-done book. ( )
