Always a fan of Meg Cabot, but the narration of this audiobook really bothered me.

Miaaaaaa. Oh Miaaaaa. Now I have the 10th audiobook and the 3rd audiobook and I'm not sure I want to listen to the 10th because it'll be the end but also I'm so invested and I'm realising that the 9th and 10th are kind of my favourite books of them all. UGH MIAAAA growing into her own, making Genovia a democracy, being heartbroken, I LOVE IT. This one got me through a few flights and an hour of awful Newark security, so muchly appreciated.

Sure, she's a drama queen. Sure, she acts absolutely ridiculous when she's been dumped. But it's all SO VERY REAL and believable. And the changing dynamics between her and Lilly are great, and even more so, the changing dynamics between her and LANA, ugh I love it so much.

And one thing that I definitely didn't appreciate even when I last reread these (OHMYGOSH THAT WAS FIVE YEARS AGO! Over spring break my first year of college when I was being a total drama queen over a heartbreak myself. I had forgotten about that. Thanks, Miaaaa) but VERY MUCH appreciated now? The treatment of mental health. Whether or not Mia is depressed is debatable and irrelevant--the fact that we're talking about going to therapy and that's okay and that's NORMAL and a mainstream character is embracing it? Beautiful. So effing beautiful.

This reread (listen!) is so affirming my love for these books. ( )

Much better. Mia is no longer vapid. Rather she is beginning to think for herself, and get to know herself, finding her place in the world as a normal (relatively) teenager. ( )

Better than some of the recent entries in the series, so I'm giving it four stars as a thank you. They're all pretty good, but this one has a little more oomph to it than some. ( )
