"When Dad Cuts Down the Chestnut Tree" is a story that points out both positive and negatives of having a tree and possibly cutting it down. This story also portrays the love for nature, no matter what size. The illustrations are great, and the limited words per page makes it an easier book to follow as a young reader. A wonderful story about respecting our environment because it does do so many great things for us that we take advantage of. The young boy is happy at first and gives several reasons why it would be a good thing that the tree is cut down, but then he realizes there are so many things he would miss out on if his dad did cut down the tree. Children need to be taught at a young age that trees our good for us and we should respect that, which is why it is good that it is written in a language that young children could follow. It has short sentences and easy words so a kid could read it on their own, it doesn't have flashy illustrations but I like them because they are realistic and true to the simple storyline.
