I loved this book and I think it would be an engaging book for kindergarten to 2nd graders to read. Elephant and Piggie have funny facial expressions and reactions that would be fun for children to read. It is also easy to follow along and would be great for early readers. ( )

The Elephant and Piggie books are my favorite early reader books. They have simple words, are not too short (I hate "readers" that are only a few pages long, but for some reason have long words!) and are cute and funny. It is a sure sign that a reader is wonderful when middle schoolers want to read them, too! ( )

Summary: this book is a classic Mo Willems book that students love! It's about Gerald, the elephant, who has a bird on his head. The story goes on with Piggie trying to help Gerald get the bird off his head before it gets worse. There ends up being a few birds on his head trying to build a nest!

Classroom use: this story is so great for early elementary kids because they LOVE any Mo Willems book! I think students enjoy the humor in it and how they tend to be easy read books. ( )

This is a book about two friends. Gerald has a problem when two birds decide to build a nest on top of his head. Elephant is not happy when the birds lay their eggs. He wishes they would go somewhere else. They ended up going to Piggie's head. ( )

Gerald has a problem on his hands, well in this case on his head. Two love birds land on his head and decide to build a nest and start a family. What I enjoyed about this book is that the author uses repetition when Piggie tells Gerald what the birds are doing on his head and he says what they are doing but it is formed as a question. The way I see it, the repetitiveness helps with a child’s comprehension and helps them stay in the “know” of what’s going on in the book. ( )

Gerald has a bird on his head, and understandably, is a little bit freaked out. In typical Willems fashion, the story gets even more absurd when a whole family of birds in a nest end up on his head.

Children just adore Elephant and Piggie. "There is a Bird on Your Head" is a personal favorite, but all Mo Willems books are wonderful. The illustrations are cute and the reading is extremely simple with short sentences in large bold font. Mo Willems is undeniably one of our favorite authors!

This book is perfect for kids in first grade. The reading level changes throughout the book; in certain parts of the book the reading level will be easy for first grade kids, while in other parts of the book it may be a little more difficult for them to figure out. This is awesome because it will provide a challenge for the kids, while also keeping them motivated within the story. This book also shows kids that it's okay to be different than everyone else, and I think that is a very important lesson for them to learn at this age. ( )
