Family & Relationships. Reference. Nonfiction. Humor (Nonfiction.) HTML:

The third edition of the best, funniest father's guide to having a baby, What to Expect When Your Wife Is Expanding, is now thoroughly revised and updated, but it's still packed with information, advice, and attitude distinctively for guys. Originally conceived as a little parody, just something funny and helpful for the expectant man, the book is now a classic gift, passed knowingly from one generation of first-time papas to the next.

With this lighthearted, month-by-month instruction manual on the care and nurture of a pregnant wifeâ??the main role of expectant dadsâ??he'll handle all the important milestones and topics: what not to say during the three phases of labor; what to buy, how many and when; maintaining work-life balance; maintaining work-life-wife balance.

New features in What to Expect When Your Wife Is Expanding include:

  • The minefield: the wrong gifts for your pregnant wife
  • Social media pregnancy etiquette: status update!
  • Eight reasons why not to pick out maternity clothes

What to Expect When Your Wife Is Expanding also features the latest trends!

  • Festive gender-reveal parties. (Really!)
  • Updated baby name guide, including Twitter hash tags.
  • Cloth diapers: The debate is back!
  • … (mehr)

Eh...it started out really funny, but that was about the peak of it. Informative? Kinda, but a lot of it was sarcastic and satirical. Funny? Like I said, it started out really funny, then got stale and repetitive. Interesting? It had its moments. I started reading it "late", as in, my wife is already in her ninth month when I started reading. Would I have been better off the first eight months if I had read this book first? That's a strongly stated no. I'd say any father to be can get along very easily without this book. ( )

Can be mildly amusing at times, but mostly I'd prefer to have a lot more advice and information. ( )

This book is a great gift for any first-time father. It contains excellent advice such as to drink double to make up for your wife's inability to drink and favorite toys for a man to bring to the hospital. The format follows the [What to Expect When You're Expecting] series with each chapter covering one month of the pregnancy. Rather than detailing "What you may be feeling" as per the REAL What to Expect Book, each chapter begins with, "What your wife will be complaining about" and each month the first item is always "You." This is a humorous look at life as a husband with a pregnant wife. There may be a few bits of useful information in here by mistake, but it's mostly supposed to provide some much-needed silliness during what can be a somewhat stressful (although fun and exciting) time. ( )
