This is an informational text story about the Peregrine falcon that migrates from Alaska to Argentina. This book provides purely factual information in a story format that follows the falcon through 14 different places. The language is very descriptive and uses adjectives such as “…her razor-sharp beak.” By using this language, the author shows the readers the story and facts rather than telling the reader. The illustrations nicely enhance the story by accurately portraying each location the Peregrine travels to. The information is accurate and the organized and the there is an information page in the back that confirms the information in the book. Finally, I like that, on the first page, there is a picture of a map that marks the destinations of each location the bird travels. This map allows readers to comprehend the direction of migration and helps to visually aid the where in the world the locations are. Overall, this book is great for teaching about migration or birds in general. I would definitely recommend this book to another teacher or student. ( ) I liked the very first page of this book, it was a map of North and South America with dots along the migratory route of the Falcon, each dot had the name of the location and the page numbers for where in the book that location was referring too. I liked the illustrations of the sweeping, panoramic scenery that were from a birds point of view. I liked how the illustrations so closely matched what the words were saying that you could pretty much get the gist of the story just by looking at the illustrations. I also liked how the words and the illustrations portrayed multiple types of weather, as that would be a realistic occurrence for the falcon. The book illustrated the falcon taking shelter in a tree during a rain storm. The theme of the book was to inform the reader about the migration of Falcon’s. Zeige 2 von 2
Madeleine Dunphy’s Peregrine’s Journey presents a young peregrine falcon’s year migration beginning in Northern Alaska and ending in Argentina. It reads like fiction but is filled with facts. Madeleine Dunphy treats both her reader and the peregrine with dignity and respect. The pictures are starkly realistic, but Kest also catches a subtle, appealing cockiness in the peregrine’s poise. This well-illustrated, well-written book provides a wealth of information about peregrine falcons, bird migration, and predator-prey relationships. It would be an excellent addition to a school library or to a child’s personal library. I recommend The Peregrine’s Journey highly. Gehört zu VerlagsreihenAuszeichnungen
