This is a very sweet little story. I'm not sure, but I believe this was the first Pern story written - which makes some of the names (F'lar, F'nor, Lessa, Mnementh, Ramoth, Canth) very interesting. For that matter, K'van shows up in Dragonquest (I think) - one of the early Pern books, anyway. Though he's apparently gotten his growth by then, since as I recall he's described as tall. Anyway. Sweet little hatching story - I keep wanting to call it The Littlest Dragonrider, don't know why - Keevan is the smallest and youngest candidate for a dragon, which lets him in for a lot of teasing; it goes too far and he ends up with a broken leg and a mild concussion. Then Hatching starts...and of course, K'van ends up a bronzerider. In and of itself, there's very little to the story; as the first example of Pern, it's excellent. ( )
