Excellent source for Native American facts 2. I would use this book to teach children how to research and fact find. This non-fiction book gives an introduction to the Cherokee Indians and their culture. The book covers the history of the Cherokee people, including the Trail of Tears, and some myths within their culture. I would use this as a resource for students to use when beginning a research project on the Cherokee or themes in history, such as the cost of westward expansion. This book describes what the Cherokee Indian culture is like. It tells a little bit of their history as well as what kind of houses they lived in, what kind of foods they ate,and what kind of stuff they did for fun.
Personal Reaction:
I thought this book was a great book to read given I've lived in OK my whole life and have never really knew much at all about their Cherokee Indians. This book taught me a few interesting things about the Cherokee Indians and was very interesting to read.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Each student could make their own Indian head dress or teepee.
2. We could research a famous Indian and write a report about them.
3. We could take a field trip to a Native American Museum. ( )
