As Charlie the Caterpillar meets one group of animals after another playing together and having fun, he asks if he can join in. But each time he's told not welcome -- because he's ugly. As winter approaches, Charlie spins himself a cocoon. When spring arrives, the cocoon opens and out comes Charlie -- now a beautiful butterfly. Everyone wants him to be part of their group. But Charlie puts these fair-weather friends properly in their place in this heartwarming story about the meaning of true friendship.

This is a good children's book. This book talks about how a caterpillar was not being accepted by the other animals because they thought he was ugly. The caterpillar began to believe that he was ugly. After one of his terrible days he wraps himself in a cocoon and then turn into a beautiful butterfly. He was then being accepted by all of the animals that turned him down before. This book is a good lesson to teach children just because someone looks differently than you; does not mean you can not be their friend. This book also can help children understand the life cycle of a caterpillar. I recommend this book. ( )

This story shows the transition of a caterpillar into a butterfly. I love this children's book because it gives a fun twist on a real life occurrence. The animals in the book can talk which would give a child a fun feel while reading. I also like the picture that are drawn. They are very engaging and they look very human-like, it gives the story that extra edge it needs. One thing, however, I did not like is when the author continuously writes "giddddouddaa here". I believe that would confuse a child learning to read because that is not a word. All in all, this is a very cute story with a cute lesson, but I would not recommend to a beginning reader. ( )

The message shows that one should not judge a person by the way they look and be kind to others to make new friends. One day the tables could turn and you will feel upset for not being welcomed somewhere. Always be kind and don't judge. The book could be used in Kindergarten through 2nd grade focusing on friendship or insects such as the butterfly effect.
