It's been years since the death of Hal Jordan and the end of the Green Lantern Corps. I did not give this two stars because it was bad. It was not. However, if you have not followed the Green Lantern titles for a while, you may get a little lost. This is a very convoluted tale where keeping track of some of the characters at times may not be easy. Having said that, it was a pretty fast paced read as the Green Lantern Corps has to fight the menace posed by Sinestro and his own yellow corps based on fear. As this is only part one of the series, I will likely go find the second part, just to see how it ends. But overall, keeping my expectations on the low side. It was neat, but not great. For a casual reader like me, in the end, it was just ok.

Then again, there are other DC titles I like better. ( )

The artwork is jaw dropping in this book. The writing is all over the place and not engaging...I see myself skipping so many word bubbles just to get to the next part. The green lanterns are finally attacked by the Sinestro corps that has been hinted at throughout the book and they devastate OA by killing lanterns. John and the renegades head towards Qwad to help Kyle Rayner who was captured by the yellow ring and turned into parellax. I liked all characters under parallax rule since they are bursting with twisted humor which makes for a fun read when he enters the page; plus I love the visual of him. More lanterns die by the fodder and two lostlanterns die with me caring less and less about them since Geoff has failed to give them any character except like two out of eight of them...Ummm...I thought when anti monitor being blasted by the rock lost lantern was a cool scene and the sniper where he was blasting off lanterns on a small asteroid were the best parts of the book. Sinestro adds to his menacing factor by keeping that cold level head where he truly believes keeping order to the universe must be ruled by fear...the Sinestro corps members have frightening looks to them where I can’t wait to see more sadistic kills off the green lantern fodder... Yet further proof that Geoff Johns is the single most overrated writer working in comics today. A confusing, overly dramatic mess of a fairly stereotypical story. ( )

The pinnacle of Green Lantern stories. It's about the Lanterns as a corps and as individuals, about the ramifications of the Guardians' existence. It's got Sinestro, one of the greatest villains of all time, because he's one of the few with a legitimate ideological position. Plus the writing is amazing, and while it's part of the ongoing Green Lantern canon, it's also a contained two-volume story with an ending. ( )

It'd probably help if I knew more about the Green Lantern Corps and such to understand it better. ( )
