This anthology is great if you are looking for short, accessible texts with which to frame a discussion of culture in your English class. There are a few stories, however, such as "Business at 11" where the culture represented is a little more ambiguous. ( ) Tags: Multicultural, ESOL, Variety Summary: A great book with short stories about various multicultural experiences growing up cities. Told from the point of view of the multicultural side. Personal Reaction: I believe this is a great book to share with a military school, child care center, daycare as military towns and communities experience the most change, incoming and outgoing personnel change. Extension Ideas: As you read this to a younger age group or an ESOL group, have them share ideas to stay in touch with someone who leaves and then share ideas to become a better cultural city or community. An insightful collection of 14 short stories about the contemporary multicultural experiences of children growing up in America's cities. This collection provides a glimpse of what it's like to see the city through a given lens as a child. A must read for middle school students to better understand our America.
