I needed to know visual basic so that I could write a computer program in my chemistry research lab. I had very little training beforehand. This book taught me most of the stuff I needed to know to do that. The step by step instructions were valuable and the interactive CD that came with it helped a lot. I recommend it highly. (

"The book doesn’t skip over the more fundamental programming areas - loops, decision structures etc - and yet covers some more advanced areas, as well as including a useful section on working with printers, and the improved DataGridView control."
