This book is themed around the reptiles from the crocodile and alligator family. I like this book because of all the useful information it contains. I would use this book in my classroom if we were doing a unit on reptiles. I would suggest this book to children who enjoy learning about these kinds of creatures. (grades 4-6). Crocodiles & Alligators is an exceptional survey of crocodilians and their behavior. Each page is accompanied by a full page picture of a crocodilian species. Physical characteristics and differences between alligators and crocodiles are discussed in detail. The pictures are beautiful, and Simon's prose flows very well from diet to motion to a brief look at life cycle. His use of equating dinosaurs to crocs is certainly to play to a younger audience, and it works. He ends with an example of alligators and their valuable impact on the environment of the Everglades. Very good and highly recommended to any middle school class interested in learning more about the family called crocodilian. Zeige 4 von 4 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Each 2-page spread has a single, realistic photo on one page, and on the accompanying page there is a about a 160-word description of some particular croc aspect.
I like that this book is structure in a way that compels the reader to sustain a singular line of thought per page, with minimal visual stimuli interrupting the comprehension process. This book requires more focus and independent reader tenacity, which is something that is missing in many other youth books about the animal kingdom.
The information provided is really thorough. The nitty gritty facts about crocodilians are decently covered here, so it works as a great introductory book for adults as well as kids. ( )
