And breed he does. It's actually kind of interesting. The computer selects the grandparents. The grandparents have sex once and that's it. The kids then have sex once, and that's it. But the resulting man? In essence, he fucks his way around the world, through the solar system, and right into the heart of the Vim empire. I'm not sure exactly how many "tufts of fur", or "pink nipples peeking through a patch fur" we see, but Raki, the hero, nails a LOT of psuedo-human booty. And maybe that's why he wins. It's not his ESP, Telekensis, and ability to teleport. It's not his master of military tactics and strategy. It's not the ability of his body to withstand boiling water, freezing cold, acids or deserts. It's his ability to woo women.
Another recurring theme is that of cannibalism and the belief that eating people you know is a good idea. Many of the psuedo-human sub-breeds have adopted that idea, apparently independently - or perhaps through a common custom inherited from a group of men who crashed an airplane in the Andes mountains. At any rate, one human sub-species, the Ungul, have been bred as cattle. Their meat and milk are prized throughout the human empire. The Eshom, fierce hunters, believe that once a female mates with a male, she should eat him to nourish the child. The list goes on and on. I'm really not much into the whole 'if you love your neighbor, eat him up' philosophy. Sorry.
Interesting concept. I thought the political machinations were a little too done up. As were the sex and the cannibalism and the superhuman powers of the savior of man. In fact, I think that's probably the way to sum this one up: Over the top, in many ways. ( )
