The writing is a fascinating mix of sweetness and inexperience with the sometimes drunken, cruel, and troubled adults. A stunning line will show up here and there, and blow me away. Some feel dated, but still, I like the writing and how the family members interact. Fante has become a favorite writer of mine. ( )
