Tunnels is an informational book about how tunnels are built and what they are used for. I liked this book for three reasons. The first reason I liked this book was because the information was not overwhelming. When it talked about how tunnels are made/dug, it gave a brief but detailed sentence: "Most tunnels are dug by beginning in the middle and digging both ways, or digging from the ends to meet in the middle". I thought this sentence gave enough information for me to understand how some tunnels are built, but it was still on a level that I could understand, despite not ever building a tunnel before, or knowing any technical terms about tunnels. Another reason I liked this book was because the illustrations were very detailed. One tunnel discussed in the book was a tunnel that people walk through, like those in the metro station. The illustration used showed the stairs the people walk down to go underground, as well as the train underground tunnel compared to the street above where the cars drive. The final reason I liked this book was because the last page of the book showed how the building of tunnels began- with cavemen, then a tunnel under the Babylon over 4000 years ago, etc. This page gives an idea about how tunnels have changed over time as well, and it shares how the world's longest tunnel, the Seikan Tunnel ( )
