I found this available as a free download though the New York Public Library at Archive.org. It was originally published in 1941, with most of the data current to 1939. Gone With the Wind was the new big sensation. The book is based on extensive surveying within the Hollywood community, from actors to directors and producers, to find out where they came from, what they make, marriage status, etc. The majority of the book is an interpretation of the data, with the full surveys and lots of charts are in the back. It's a statistician's dream.

The book is fairly interesting, though I should add that I engaged in a lot of skimming as I sought information pertinent to my research. It amused me how Hollywood has changed in some ways (hunting and horse racing aren't so popular now) but the celebration of celebrity is still exists in more exaggerated form. That's especially curious when you consider that "talkies" had only been around a decade, with the industry only booming for about twenty-five years total. Hollywood because Hollywood quite quickly.
