I've tried three times to read this and just cannot get into it. So I'm calling it quits and giving up. Didn't find the characters interesting at all. Low Man is a story of hope and dreams, of consequences and responsibilities and what heights a man can rise to when forced to take stock of himself. Low Man isn't just a good story, it's a great book!I won't go into the plot since it has been covered pretty well by others here. I just believe it's a great example of what one person will sacrifice for a loved one. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. Low Man is one of those books that makes you sit and reflect for a few moments when you are finished reading. It is a story about the strength of love and the sacrifices a young man makes to protect and provide for his family. Benny Assissi and his wife are going through the hardest of times; he's working at a convenience store and the pay is just not enough. This is causing stress in the marriage, but Benny is not a quitter and is determined to pull his family through this rough time. While Benny is working the late night, he is robbed at gunpoint, but also receives word that his son is sick and being taken to the hospital. He is unwilling to lose his job so he chases down the robber. This sets a chain of supernatural events into motion that affect Benny and the robber, and pit good against evil. A sub-plot centers around the wife's experience in the emergency room and touches on how uninsured individuals are treated in the medical system. Very poignant ending...unique story, well written. The plot is something that many can relate to at this particular time. After losing his job working in a factory, the only work the main character can get is at a convenience store at night. Working nights and going to community college during the day puts a heavy strain on his marriage, especially as his son get sick. One night while working, the convenience store gets robbed right at the same time his wife calls him and asks him to go to the emergency room with her. He pretty much is too fed up to take any more and follows the robber with a gun.Sadly, after following the robber, things go from bad to worse. This novel is filled with people who are pretty mean and selfish at the main characters expense. While I am no fan of the current medical system, much of the long and drawn sections of the wife waiting in the ER as people are callous to her and her sick infant seemed like they could be edited. I have very little patience for heavy description in stories, which is probably why I did not enjoy this novel as much as other reviewers did. The mythology and horror were interesting, but not interesting enough to make up for the bleak premise and overly descriptive passages. This book is entertaining but slow and slightly tedious to read in some places. I liked the power of love theme of the novel, but I prefer a little more happy in my ending. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Benny Assissi's good-paying factory job is gone--outsourced overseas. His wife sits in a hospital emergency room with his dying son. When he's robbed while working the nightshift at a convenience store, Benny grabs a gun from under the counter and runs after the thief. One bullet later, he finds out how precious life is and how far he must go to keep it. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
