NCLA Review - The title, Does God Feel Your Pain?, suggested to this reviewer a book of hope and renewal to someone in pain, whether mental or physical. Instead, the book is filled with references to Eve and how she basically ruined the wonderful world we might have experienced. The authors also repeatedly site Job’s wife and her “curse God and die” statement. This reviewer had another librarian read the book and she concluded, “I am sure all of the background information has its place, but I soon got bored trying to work my way through it. The book did not answer the title question.” If you are in pain and want to wear a hair shirt this is the book for you. It is certainly tough love taken to a new level. It is discouraging at best! The furnace of affliction has a way of bringing to surface some of the hardest questions of life-many of them questions about God. And the only trustworthy source for answers is the Bible, which God Himself wrote. In Does God Feel Your Pain? authors Wayne House and William Grover skillfully interweave compassion, honesty, and scriptural counsel as they explore these difficult issues and more: Why has God allowed evil in the world? Why does God permit pain in our lives? How can God really be in control when Satan is at work? Why aren't my prayers being answered? Is it really possible to know joy even in the worst of pain?Readers will find this a highly personal and practical resource that can help restore bright hope even in the midst of dark despair.
