In the third volume of the Elfquest saga, Cutter and Skywise's quest leads them into the company of humans. Meanwhile, Leetah and the Wolfriders set out to follow them after Suntop receives a warning from Savah.

This volume continues to expand on the themes of growth and change that really mark the Elfquest saga. Cutter's experiences among the humans highlight the ways in which the two races are similar rather than different, and force him to accept that there can be peace between elves and humans. As always, Wendy Pini's art does an excellent job of highlighting how both Cutter and Skywise react to the situation. Cutter's body language is much more open and relaxed once initial contact as been made, while Skywise remains tense and reserved. The pictures and the text blend together wonderfully to tell the whole story.

Volume Three also introduces Winnowill, the corrupted healer whose intervention will change the Wolfriders forever. Tons of new questions are raised, even as some are answered. ( )
