Preschool Age Book

How have I gone my entire life not realizing the family in the corduroy books was Black. The world has always needed more POC recognition in children’s books, but maybe in my younger days I didn’t pay attention the way I do now. I love the corduroy books, or at least remember loving them as a child, and this book reiterated it. Viola Davis writing a new book for the 50th anniversary of the original makes more sense to me now. I wish there were more books like Corduroy, and more books with various POC as a child. I may not be POC, but as a navy brat, I would have loved to see the places I lived and people I made friends with more represented.

Summary: This book is one in the series of Corduroy books. The little girl accidentally loses Corduroy at the laundromat because he is trying to find himself something to make a pocket. When the little girl finds him, she makes him a pocket.
Opinion: This was the book that I used for my read aloud. I remember liking it as a kid, but I didn't like it as much now. It's just a regular book. Nothing special and no moral. ( )

In this episode, Corduroy visits the laundromat with Lisa and her mother. He gets distracted by the fact that he doesn't have a pocket and goes off to look for one; when Lisa goes to pick him up, he isn't there! Her no-nonsense mother tells her they have to go and she can come look for Corduroy tomorrow. Corduroy has an overnight adventure in the laundromat and Lisa finds him the next day - and sews him a pocket, of course, with a card with his name inside.

corduroy goes to the laundromat. he tries to find something to make a pocket out of but eventually gets lost. his owner comes back to get him and she makes him a locket so he'll never get lost again.
