(read 30 June 1978) I enjoyed reading this book tremendously, flawed and disappointing though in some ways it was. It tells the story of Mother Alexia and Mother Alfons, the first two Mother-Generals of the School Sisters of St. Francis. How often my mind went back to those years, 1934 to 1946, when School Sisters of St. Francis were extremely important persons in my life. I was somewhat struck by the rather unintellectual tone of the community in its early years, and yet the fervor of their religion strikes a responsive chord in me. How much that I am is due to that procession of Sisters: Sister Oda, Sister Wilhelma, Sister Benno (3 years!), Sister Leopoldine, Sister Bonagratia, Sister Virginia, Sister Gabriel, and the high school sisters, led by Sister Cera and Sister Adeleida. None are named in this book--the only sister named in the book I had heard of and knew was Sister Charity, who came to our school at times as 'inspector.' The struggles of the early days of the community were real eye-openers to me, and filled me with admiration for those fervent, so German sisters. ( ) keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
