Summary:
Show Me the Money addresses all the world topics of business, money and economics in a language that is understanding to children. This informational text starts by uncovering what money is, why we need to save it, and the worth of the purchases that we make. Children will learn where money has started and where it have evolved to. After understanding all that there is to know about money in its entirety, the book goes on to discuss every aspect of economics between taxes and "how to be a billionaire."

Review:
Show Me the Money addresses the topics of the world that many children do not even know exist until they are expected to understand them. Though the content of the book may seem to be highly sophisticated, many children are interested in these many topics that they may hear their parents or other adults discussing. Many schools are engaging economics and stock markets into their classroom lessons and this book is a great way for a child to get a background knowledge of all of these complex topics. Each section addresses questions that children are constantly curious about, such as "what is interest and how does it make your money grow?" ( )

Judging by its cover, Show Me the Money might perplex many parents and librarians. Happily, the book presents a balanced and engaging look at economics. The design of the book is exceptional, making what might otherwise be dry topics very readable. Two unexpected inclusions are a section called 'The Best Things In Life Are Free' and an explanation of Marx's ideas. ( )

Grade 4–6—Colorful, appealing page layouts; a brief, enjoyable text broken up with numerous captions, boxes, and sidebars; and engaging interruptions, such as imitation board games and occasional cartoon stories, combine with current, eminently instructive information to make this book a winner. Four main sections cover the history of money, expenses/income, the basics of economics, and the world of work and business. Brief profiles of eight wealthy entrepreneurs and their paths to prosperity and eight significant economists and their theories are included. The lively writing features real-life examples that will be meaningful to students and is presented in a balanced, nonjudgmental style that encourages them to decide for themselves among the various ideas concerning economic policies. Along the way, readers will learn about credit, stock markets, cash flow, smart purchasing, supply and demand, taxes, fair versus free trade, and up-to-date concerns such as telecommuting, globalization, conservation, and business ethics. Color photos and graphics excel at conveying the concepts presented and represent diversity well. Hall's presentation of this sometimes dull topic is remarkably vibrant. Tamra Orr's "Money Matters" series (Mitchell Lane) covers much the same territory for the same level in a more traditional format; Hall's approach is distinctively eye-catching without sacrificing accuracy.—Jeffrey A.
