I enjoyed reading this book for a few reasons. The illustrations in this book complimented the written text well and overall enhanced the story. The illustrations were all large with vivid and bold colors. They also had a textured look to them, which gave the book an almost 3D affect. A key part of this book’s plot was the main character, Wink, not fitting in with the other ninjas at the school because he wanted attention. Although Wink is a good ninja he wants to be noticed and applauded for his skill, which goes against the ninja teaching of stealth, silence, and humility. Not fitting in with others is something that many children struggle with. However, this book showed that it is okay to be different and that your differences can be a point of pride. For instance, at the end of the story Wink joins the circus where his differences that made him a bad ninja help him become a great performer. In addition, the descriptive and figurative language in the story helped to engage the reader and give them a clear mental picture. Some powerful descriptive phrases included “he moves like a gazelle-swift and graceful,” and “his spirit shines like the morning sun.” ( )

Summary:
Story about a young boy names Wink who attends ninja school. Since his first day he wanted his master to notice him but he would do all the wrong things to be noticed. He was loud when she was suppose to be silent. He was seen when he was supposed to hide. Each day his master would send him home and that would make Wink very sad becasue he just wanted to be the best ninja and for his master to feel proud of him. Later he found his true talent, the circus. He performed in front of the audience including his grandmother and his master. This was when Wink felt happy.

A cute story about a young boy who wants to become a ninja who is noticed. The happiest day of WInk's life is when he is accepted into the Ninja school for young ninjas; unfortunately, Wink has trouble with stealth, silence and surprise. The Master sends him home each day with a clever saying to think about and his grandmother reminds him each day that the circus is coming to town and that Wink must cheer up. One day, WInk runs into another boy practicing for the circus and WInk decides to help him. Wink is so successful at helping the boy and his family, that he preforms in the circus. he finally realizes that it is more important to be yourself and be true to yourself and talents, than to be something who aren't. The illustrations were very cute and the story was humorous. I enjoyed the meaningful sayings that grandmother and aster had to say to WInk. An awesome story for a read-aloud or for young readers.
