Martha does lots of things - both nice and not-nice - but she doesn't say sorry. Once her mom, dad, and baby brother are all mad at her, she finally does apologize.

Although Martha does feel bad and know what she needs to do, no explanation is given for why she refuses to apologize to begin with (beyond sheer kid-stubbornness), and her transformation seems driven more by external consequences than a genuine change of heart or deeper understanding. ( )

This is a life lesson book. It's about a young girl otter that's in a bad mood and takes it out on her family. She refuses to say sorry and realizes that there's consequences for not owning up. She then says sorry and realizes that it feels good.

Honestly, I didn't enjoy this, and I can't imagine sharing it with my kids. Martha is just a brat, not endearing, not a role-model. Sorry. ( )

I don't really have a strong opinion on this book, neither for better nor for worse. Overall, it was solid, but as one could tell just from looking at the cover, it's meant to appeal more to girls than boys. But in either case, the illustrations were pretty good. They weren't anything to brag about, but you could clearly see emotions within the characters faces. They definitely got the job done. I thought the flow of this book was on point as well. I thought there was an appropriate amount of words on each page - not too much, not too little. It made the story easy to read even for children. The moral of the story is quite clear: say you're sorry if you do something "not so nice." ( )

I enjoyed reading this children’s book. I thought the illustrations did an excellent job of telling the story that was written. I think the illustrations were presented in a way that could help a young child begin to understand how to read the body language of other people. This is shown throughout the story by everyone turning their backs to Martha until she does the right thing and apologizes. Another valuable lesson in the story is you can’t always get what you want especially when you have done something wrong and do not apologize for it. This is a valuable life lesson to teach children at a young age because they will be required to use this skill for the rest of their lives. There was only one linear theme throughout the story and that is another reason why I found this to be a book that children will both enjoy and learn from. The theme throughout the story is being apologetic when you have done something wrong. For example, Martha realized her parents were not going to give her a cookie or a piggyback ride until she apologized for painting on her dad and spilling cake mix all over her mom. Life lessons are important because they teach you how to grow as a person. ( )
