A good set of essays by the prominent Italian philosopher. I particularly liked the first one on the future of democracy, which reminded me of Robert MacIver's works. It's political philosophy in a broad sense, which conveys a deep understanding of the subject without formal theorizing. The other essays are also quite original. It seems like the author would have had much more to say about many of these subjects. He may have written more about them elsewhere, but even as it stands this book should be a good source of new ideas and perspectives for democratic theorists everywhere.
