This story is a cajun twist on the fairy tale, "The Three Little Pigs". Instead of pigs and a wolf, we have three alligators and a boar. The book follows the same story line as the traditional story. Through out we see the repetition of the boar going to each house trying to get in. The illustrations in this book were bold and bright unlike traditional fairy tales which we usually see a lot of pale colors being used. ( )

In this story, onomatopoeia is used to enrich the way events happen. The words "plonk", "slosh", "snurf", "snort", and more are used to make you hear things happening in the story. Also, rhyme is used. The rhyme is used in the way that it's used in the original "Three Little Pigs". It's used to show the effect of the boar and how he is to the gators. The pictures show you exactly what the author is telling you. ( )

Oh I wish I had a little one to read this aloud with! The wolf is replaced by the Big-bottomed Boar who says I'll wiggle my rump with a Bump, Bump, Bump and smash your house!" Not to mention idioms like "... faster than snakes after a bullfrog." Bright & funny illustrations are perfect." ( )

I liked the southern accents and charm of this book. Three gators grew up in Texas with their mother. It was time for them to go off on their own and built their own houses. This is a spinoff of "The Three Little Pigs". The first gator built his house out of rocks, the second used sticks, and the third used sand and door made from branches. The big bad boar bumped up against the third gator's house and sand flew everywhere. He went to hide in the second gator's house but the boar knocked it down. They both went to the third gator's house to hide. The boar could not knock down the house made of rocks so he decided to go down the chimney. Bad choice because they lit the fireplace. The second and third gators realized that their brother had the right idea. The first gator helped them build strong houses.
I loved the illustrations and the unique story that was told based on the story of "The Three Little Pigs". This book shows children that knowledge and being clever is more valuable sometimes than strength. ( )
