Unleashed was my favorite. It was UF with an ironic twist. Actually two twists. That is probably the only one I would ever re-read.
---------------------

~ The Skeleton Key 3* YA Enjoyable but wouldn't read again. Two girls who love Greek mythology start praying to Hermes and give offerings once a month. (view spoiler)

~ Objects of Desire 4* SF MG aliens hiding in plain site, experimenting on controlling our desire for the current hottest trend.

~ Unleashed (1991) 5* UF Fun. "Oh no, the moon is full, who will watch my baby while I shift into an out of the ordinary thing? I know, the nice guy downstairs." Welp the full moon effects him too.

~ Mint Condition 3.5* time traveling. You want that first edition spider man comic? They can get it for you. I would have liked it better if it was longer. For me, and maybe I'm not getting it, it just ends.

~ Night Life 3* sisters visiting the Fae realm every night wearing out their dancing shoes. Their father hires a huntsman to find out where they go.

~ Entertaining Possibilities 3* I see a peek of Edmund in the husband of this one. A supernatural family comes to re-claim their daughter who ran off and got married. "What would Darren Stevens do?"

~ Toobychubbies 3* The TV show zoned out the kids in a good way. They started picking up their toys, being nicer to each other. What parent wouldn't take advantage of the TV show and let the kids watch more? Mom is benefiting also but then she starts hearing whispers (subliminal messages)....

~ Haunted Humans 3* crime fantasy. Interesting. The supporting main character, absorbs ghosts. To the outside world he seems to have multiple personalities but it's actually all the different ghosts. The MC is being stalked by a murderer she used to date.

~ Egg Shells 3* MG - The characters get to try out some different skins/looks before turning 16. Then need to pick final skin. Nice to spend time in the story which helps point out our skin doesn't matter, it's what is on the inside. Story doesn't really go too deep. ( )

I'm not a huge short stories fan, but I'll read them if I've liked other things by the author. This collection is true to its name, but I also noticed that almost all of them had the theme of violation with protagonists suffering torture, murder, stalking and alien mind invasion. Creepy! ( )

Nina Kiriki Hoffman just writes wonderful short stories. That's how it is. The stories in this anthology give you all too brief glimpses of worlds and people who are weird, uncanny, just a bit frightening and still strangely, familiar. Her characters have teeth and claws and yet, they are also somehow family. Well, in the end who is scarier or more familiar than family? Reading an NKR story is for me a bit like having a particularly vivid dream - where dream logic operates in a way that makes complete sense to me - until I, reluctantly, wake up. ( )

A very interesting set of stories, stories to amuse and make you think. All with a urban fantasy or near future feel to them. Sometimes the shorter ones made me think more, which was good. ( )
