When it comes to finding a travel guide to Gothenburg, the pickings are slim. In fact, this may be the only one available in English. The book is slim and compact, easily fitting in a purse or large pocket. However, it lacks good maps and its content isn’t great. From what the author chooses to write about, it seems like the only things to do in Gothenburg are shop, hang out in little cafes, and get a drink at a nearby pub/bar. There are only a handful of places/attractions mentioned that don’t involve buying, eating, or drinking. If this is true, I guess I won’t be so disappointed that most of my trip will involve attending a conference all day long.

Addendum: Once I actually arrived in Sweden, I found better (and free) guide books from the tourist office and my hotel. Still, it's nice to have some idea of what you are going to do/what to expect before you arrive in a foreign country, so I wish there was a better commercial guide book on the market. ( )
